a drive letter is already taken for a background process

I am getting "The local device name is already in use"

Someone Pegasus (MVP) sugsested that the drive letter I am trying to use is
already taken as a drive letter for a background process.

This is a good hint but without knowing how to see if indeed a drive letter
is already taken for a background process, it's pretty useless - could some
one clarify how can I determine the processes taking letters?

If you go to a command prompt and type

net use <enter>

what do you see, and what's the status of each?

What does "remembered" mean?
What conclusions regarding letters could be drawn from this?

I presume you mean "disconnected", not discontinued...

Of course "disconnected".
I see no drive letters in what "net use" returns - it is just computer name
and name of a folder.
I can only tell that all the listed folders I, indeed, tried to open, and
indeed these folders are sitting on some drives with some letters.
Where shall we go from here?
