I have an 80Gig Seagate hard drive. I have run the bootup
disks for Seagate to prepare the drive and have installed
Windows XP on it twice and I get the same problem. I am
receiving the message, "a disc read error has occurred.
Press ctrl-alt-delete to restart and it won't get past
this error message. This only occurs after I have done a
shutdown on the computer. The install goes well and I can
add all my hardware and software without any problems and
as long as I do a restart, everything is OK, but once I do
a shutdown I get this error message. I then have to
reload Windows XP again, but the same thing happens. HELP!

Hi Adrienne,

Don't use the Seagate software. Use the WinXP drive tools to partition and
format the drive in preparation for the installation (it can be done as part
of setup). Drive overlays (which is what you are using) often interfere with
a good installation.
