A database/List of books with ISBN numbers (for charity work please)

Hi all,

Let me explain the problem. At the moment I am doing some volunteer job of
collecting books for third world countires.

Now the problem that we are faced with is that we need to have Spreedsheet
of the books a long with the shipment which includes Name, Author, Puhlished
etc.

Typing up all these info for 1000s of books probably takes ages and with the
limited time that we have it is not possible. I am looking for a freeware
that if i enter the ISBN of the book all the other info well be displayed or
Alternatively a Database of List of Books with ISBN where i can write my
customised software to handle this problem.

Something like this at all?

Any other alternative?

anything input will be appreciated.

Try to create a soft that takes the info from the Amazon site using the
search by ISBN...

Hi Rahman,

Unfortunately I don't believe such freeware exists.

The free ABE Homebase book cataloging program will lookup ISBN
listings *if* you are an ABE bookseller. There are payware programs that
can look up ISBNs. see: http://www.readerware.com/index.html FYI - the
data you get from ISBN lookups is often inaccurate - for various reasons
- and needs to be checked - so not as great a timesaver as you might
think.

There is a payware CD database with books in print. It is *very*
expensive.

Wish I had better news for you. :(

FYI,The US LOC (Library of Congress) isn't always conclusively the only
authority, either...
Either that, or two of my books are actionable to the copyright attorneys I
paid good money to for my eBooks.... more later.... ITMT, sounds like Rahman
is in for a LOT of data entry, or programming downloads for a commercial
program Excel. Tho', not necessarily so, if willing to use 602TAB, an
EXCELLENT FREE Excel 97 compliant Spreadsheet from
http://www.software602.com/download/

There isn't an Access compatible DB I could either,
a) find, or
b) recommend,

For FUTURE reference there is this site.

It seems to be what you want. It's not functional yet. It's one of
those "maybe" sites. Did a little research on this site and it's been
up since 1999, but it's been "under development" for three plus years
so I wouldn't be expecting it to "come on line anytime now". But, it's
worth watching for.
