I recently picked up a SanDisk Cruzer Multipack, a 3-pack of USB 2.0
Flash Drives. They work fine, although the auto-launch of ShovelWare
is somewhat annoying.

The mystery is the performance: the read STR on later blocks is
appreciably higher than on earlier blocks. Does anybody know why?

I also used this as an opportunity to compare HDtach with HDtune,
reconfirming my preference for HDtach. But both HDtach and HDtune
do support Cruzers via USB, and SD/SDHC cards via USB-SD readers.

For graphical data, see these:

I would suspect that the adressing mode and/or burst
length is changed above the 512MB mark, i.e. when adresses
exceed 20 bits. This may be entirely dure to the driver.
Do you have measurements on other USB sticks?

Yeah, that would explain the STR graphs for the "Red" 2GB Cruzer,
but the breakpoint for the "White" 2GB Cruzer (purchased as part of
the same 3-pack as "Red") is about 128MB. Most curious.

{I'd also test "White", but it went to school with one of the kids.}

They provide, on the Flash drive, a utility to remove the
"ShovelWare", of course...

And another well-known limit. I suspect these have different
controller chips in them. In that case it would actually be
a hardware issue.

Looking forward to more info on this mystery ;-)

Yeah, like it's a binary number. Quite a lot of limits to go, Babblebot.

No, really?

How about that, eh.

It's cooked, babblebot, just like your brains.
Nothing you can do about it.
