Hey hey all.

I've been running XP Home for about 18 months, and only recently it's
started slowing down, and on a rare occasion, randomly shutting down. I
sent an Error Report to Microsoft, who tell me that it's my modem driver.
The company who produce the modem tell me I have the most up to date driver
available. I run frequent virus scans, and defrag just about once a week.
I've also tried shutting down all of the extraneous things that run on
start-up. Is there anything I'm missing?!?

Thanks dudes for any help!

You asked if you are missing anything, well first of all are you on
Broadband? if not what server are you useing? sometimes it's the server.
You said you defrag once a week, I only defrag every 6 to 8 weeks, so you
must have a lot on your hard disk to have to defrag that often, do you empty
your temporary internet files? try that every few days. It could just be
you have too much stored on your hard disk. hope some of these hints help

Thanks Enid. I actually have no need to defrag as often as once a week - I
tend just to do it out of frustration, coz admittedly it does help from time
to time. I use both AOL and TPG servers, and do clear out my tempory
internet files about once a week too. I also have about 2 gigs of free
space on my hard drive. I'm all out of ideas!!!

Thanks for your reply
