I think I owned quite a few of those phones and up until about 1995 most were completely out of reach of the average user, most until that time were for rich businessmen only, who could afford to run them..

It was in 95 that I got my first mobile a Motorola jobbie that was large and battery life was only around 2 days max on standby, if you took calls it would dwindle down pretty quickly to around a day so you charged it every night almost..

Anyone remember the One2One deal of unlimited free calls for £8.99 a month...They really done themselves up with that one as most people caned the hell out of it and there was no fair use policy then so they just had to swallow it..They couldn't cancel the contract either only the user could do that, one of my friends was still on the same contract in 2002 over 7 years later and One2One were trying to get out of the contracts by then, whether they did I don't know but theres never been a better monthly deal on any mobile tariff since..And One2One changed there operating name to T-Mobile not long after that maybe to cut those long running contracts, was probably the only way they could do it in the end..

Great blast from the past Muck's...:thumb:

I owned the first one that looked like a house brick & also one that came with it's own base pack & aerial.:o

Nice find Muckshifter.:thumb:

Great stuff, Mucks. :thumb:

The first mobile I ever saw was just like the first one on the video. Can't remember the date but it was owned by a proper smart ass business man who used to come into the pub and place it on the bar, so everyone could see it (you couldn't miss a thing that size). I can't ever remember it ringing. :p

Nice find Mucks :)

I think my parents had one with Orange in about '95 - with a whopping 10 mins of calls included each month

Crazylegs, that one2one deal sounds amazing... I wonder if anyone still has that taffif? I had a phone from Genie (now o2) a good few years ago that offered "unlimited wap" - plugging it in to the PC resulted in free internet (it got me through the first year of uni :D).
