A bit OT re updates

Hi all,

I've been fiddling around with various antivirus progs and I've one
problem with them all - I can't update virus definitions. I always get a
failure message.

I have an ADSL connectionbut I must admit my browser Avant, seems to be
very 'lumpy' when loading up.

Any ideas peeps?

Sorry to ask here, but I've asked elsewhere to no avail and you're such
a bright bunch!

Can you be more specific about what error you're actually getting? Can't
find update file? Can't connect with server? etc.?

Sure, just will not connect with the server. Tried AVG, Symantec Trial
Version, McAfee Trial and AntVir. All with the same problem.

Do you know, I thought of this the other day... That *was* the problem!

Thanks for that. Any idea which component the firewall would have
blocked? Windows Kernel thingy, update manager?

Can you be more specific about what firewall you use, and what operating
system you have?

From not seeing your system I'd probably check firewall tcp ports.

Maybe you can find a different solution... something like
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

It's good enough for me, and less maintenence.
