With the camcorder I got ultimately a file (xxx.AVI) of the size of more
than 6GB. How coild I send this file through Internet to a friend please?

You can't send it as an attachment. Most ISPs impose a limit on the size of
a single file, and the recipient may not have an email with enough storage
space to receive it (most are limited to 100MB). Your best bet is to either
upload it to a sharing site (a paid service; usually no porn and no
copyrighted materials allowed), or burn it onto a Dual layer DVD and send it
to your friend. If you are fairly adventurous, you could allow a Remote
Desktop connection and transfer using that, but 6GB is going to take a long,
long time (don't even think about it on a dial-up connection).

one word... COMPRESSION!!

If you really must send the AVI then it would be quicker to put the PC in
your car, drive round and do it on a local network connection. ;-)

Thanks for your valuable guidance. For burning it onto a Dual layer DVD
means I should have a DVD writer. I am Ok with CD burning, is burning
onto a dual layer DVD simple one or a complicated thing. Kindly further
guide on "burn it onto a Dual layer DVD ".

Thanks for the suggestion. Compression seems the only solution for me at
present as driving involves continents across.

You not only HAVE to have a DVD burner, you need a DOUBLE LAYER burner.
If you have a software that will convert your AVI file to an MPG 1 or even
MPG2, you may be able to reduce it's size to fit onto a regular DVD, but you
still need a DVD burner and NOT a CD burner.

I just tried to see what will Nero Express, that came bundled with the
LG CD burner, do to this more than 6GB file. To my surprise Nero Express
burned it to the ordinary CD properly and hardly 350 MB file got made on
the CD. But the quality of the file is not as good as it is on my Hard
Drive.

The file had to be compressed significantly in order to fit it on a CD. If
you want to burn it at it's original quality, your *ONLY* choice is to buy a
Dual-Layer DVD burner and burn it on a Dual layer DVD. I recently purchased
a Sony DRU-800A Dual-Layer DVD burner for $59.00 after rebates. Unit did
not come with any blank media, though.

Thanks for the guidance. I think I will have to purchase the Dual Layer
DVD Burner. From the preliminary findings it costs almost double here in
this part of the Globe.

Thanks once again for the guidance. I am yet to purchase the Dual-Layer
DVD burner. Could you please further guide as to how many DVD burners I
need. Someone with little knowledge, like me about it, told me that I
will have to have two DVD burners. Is it a fact.
Please guide further.

You will not need two burners. The original file is on your HDD. Just use
a good DVD burning program (Roxio, Sonic, Nero) to burn that file to disc.
You will only need two DVD drives if you want to directly copy a disc from
one DVD drive to the other DVD drive.
