I have recently installed an Asus 9800XT...and so far so good...EXCEPT: in
certain games I will notice little white fuzzy dots..almost like little
grains of salt. In some instances it looks like a white checkerboard. I
really notice it when doing a 3dmark03 pro benchmark in the mother nature
test and on the two elephants...I am running the 6404 drivers.

anyone have any suggestions?

Video RAM bad or going bad????

Exchange the card if possible.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Similar to a problem that my first 9800XT had from new, got it exchanged and
all is fine now.

Hmmm.........interesting as I exchanged the first 9800 non-Pro I bought due
to serious video glitches observed when booting, in BIOS Setup, and in
Windows.

Quality control problems in the ATI camp?????

Hmm, I even tried underclocking as far as possible and diasbling fast
writes, setting AGP to 4x, in fact everything you could think of to slow the
thing down make it run ok - and nothing worked still red n white
fuzzy/flashing dots and eventual crashes. Had the new card several weeks
now, all the settings are set back to normal and the card is as solid as a
rock. With the first card I was luck to go 30 mins without a crash, with
its replacement I've not had an ingame video crash in 3 to 4 weeks!

My problem occurred with initial install. NO overclocking, etc. I observed
the same problems during POST, in BIOS setup, and in Windows........all with
factory set timings.

The new card has been rock solid at both default clock speeds and some mild
overclocking.

I suspect my original card had bad video ram as I saw a similar problem
about a year ago on a different card (different system). Replacement card
for that system also solved the problem.
