P4 1.9 Dell
Dell 300watt power supply

Should this machine be able to handle the 9800 pro? If not, why?

I'm running a 9800Pro on my Dell 8300 P4 3.0. Not sure of the power
supply that comes with it. I do know the fans kick into overdrive at
times *s*.

The power supply from Dell probably will be inadequate to power the card.
Also there is a large mismatch between your CPU's speed and the 9800's.

The power supply is going to be marginal. May work or may not depending on
the details.

Im replaced my old power supply with a new Antec 480w TruePower and its so
quiet I cant hear from my chair.

I knew 480 would be overkill for the stuff i have whereas 350-380 would
suffice, but it leaves room for expansion without need of upgrading the PS
again.. plus with its current configuration theres much less stress on it

Im about as content as a gorilla in a monkey whore house with a truck load
of banana's

it's not as easy to swap power supplies on dells. there are some
aftermarket ones, but they cost more

Or you could buy an adapter cable and use any power supply you want.
