You do realize the Sapphire makes cards for ATI? The Sapphire Radeon 9800
non-pro is justly famous for overclocking to, or beyond, pro speeds --
making it a major bargain.

It definitely doesn't look like the picture they show with it. Mine is
the black pcb instead of the pretty red. Anybody flashed the BIOS on
this card since they got it back in stock (98-8004.bin)? Is this the
same card they had before they ran out or what? I am hesistant to
flash mine until i know for sure.

Also how can you tell what brand the memory is on it? Its not exactly
labelled.

Check the tweaking forum at www.rage3d.com. I don't have one, but I've seen
reports from many happy owners of black-pcb cards.

There's another thread like it. I repeat. It's NOT the card everyone
thought it was. Sapphire OEM is lower on the food chain than a regular
Sapphire.

hey guys, new to this place... usually post at sharkys... but i wanted to
let you know about the 9800np they got at newegg... i just got mine today
and all i can tell you is that they suck.. i have a built by ati 9800np
already and compared the two... the sapphire card is always at least 300
points behind in 3dmark 2001 even when i had the card clocked at 400/360
compared to the built by ati at 400/331... scores were 17700 to 18080... i
think the bios on this card blows... and forget about updating the bios to a
9800 pro, i tried and at stock 9800 pro speeds with the entech memory i got
artifacting.. odd thing is at400/360 using a softoc'er i got no artifacts...
this card is not worth the 249 in my opinion which is why i am calling
newegg tomorrow and will try to send it back... i just hope the will work
with me....

300 points, in 3dMark2001SE is not much. In fact, it's close to the
'variance' between benches, on same hardware. If you want a better
comparison, for DX9 cards, use 3dMark03.

Guess you got screwed, on the memory. Either that, or your case cooling is
inadequate. Thought about ramsinks?

Hence my remark about memory. Did you even read the whole reply?

It's about the memory and the ability to flash the card to a 9800Pro.
Not 3dmarkxx.

Well i am a little disappointed that mine did not have the samsung
memory (etrontech 2.8 instead) but i am not in the performance. I
haven't benchmarked it yet but just in comparison to the Ti4400 i had,
there seems to be a world of difference. image quality seems much
better and i can now turn on all effects to the max in both UT2003 and
Battlefield 1942 with no performance degradation..

I figure in 6months to a year i will upgrade again.. I don't really
need high end performance anyway in a graphics card. I would rather
have it in memory, mobo's and processors. That is much more of a
benefit to me.. i will however see how far i can overclock this baby
with no artifacts or stability issues..

You're missing the point of which is no matter. The "card" is not available
and probably never will be again. That makes this pretty moot.

I could care less. I'll be buying a Pro, anyway...
