I just got a 9800 XT 256 mb. I downloaded rage3d tweak but it does
not work with my card. Says unsupported.

Any other tweak software out there that can allow me to overclock?

thanks in advance

You might want to research the board you have a little more thoroughly.
You don't need anything that doesn't come in the box to overclock it.

Radlinker didnt work but Riva Tuner did. I now have it running at 460/400
instead of default of 412/365.

Over 16,000 on 3dmark2001se.

I thought the 3.8 drivers allowed overclocking by default on 9800XTs through
overdrive?

Hi Les,
They do or at least ATI says they do. This might be another case of failure
to RTFM ;-)

No, this won't work until Cat3.9. You notice none of the 9800XT reviews
include overclocked results.

Aye, you are correct, so all you people out there mocking me for not RTFM
etc.... can go read your own F'in manual. The drivers dont support native
overclocking havt to have another prog.

Yes I do, go read the below post. Maybe you should go read the release
notes for the drivers.

Could it be because most of the reviews were written, prior to the release
of 3.8? I know that all of the reviews I've read, were. If I recall the
release notes, that someone posted here, it stated that a new feature in the
3.8's was "overdrive". Now, if that's not for overclocking...what'zit for?
Hmmmm?

I quote, from the ATI website (this is from the Catalyst 3.8 release notes,
under 'new features'):

ATI OVERDRIVE
The new ATI OVERDRIVE (patent pending) tab, currently available for the
RADEON™ 9800XT only, provides a safe and intelligent graphics processor
clocking utility. ATI OVERDRIVE is constantly monitoring the graphics
processor and pushing the graphics frequency to its maximum, while always
ensuring that the processor temperature stays at a safe level. If the
temperature of the graphics processor were to become too hot, ATI OVERDRIVE
automatically decreases the clock speed until a safe temperature is reached.
ATI OVERDRIVE never reduces the graphics processor speed below the pre-set
factory default clock speed.

RTFRN.

See my other reply, to rms. Dunno 'which' release notes you're reading.
Maybe your eyes see 3.6 and/or 3.7 as 3.8? The release notes, for the
3.8's, specifically state Overdrive being included.

Wish I could help. I'm used to having SmartGart, in the control panel.
When I went to 3.7's, guess what? No matter how I installed...even CP
separately, had to access SmartGart from C:\ProgramFiles\ATI. It's funny,
because the 3.6's worked fine with regard to CP and SmartGart (for me).

Either way, you might want to contact ATI. As, it seems very few people (at
least in this forum) even have that card. All I can do is say that,
according to the release notes, it should be there. If, as our friend rms
says, it's not to be implemented until 3.9's...I'd like to know where he/she
got this info. Simply saying that none of the reviews he/she has read did
any overclocking is not very sound reasoning for making such a statement.

Only that???
What kind of system do you have? I get 18300 with my old 9500 np 128 MB

Agreed, that's more like a stock 9700 Pro score.

Im only running a 180fsb. I have remnants of 3 nvidia cards in the
registry. I am not sure of the best bios settings for it. I have not idea
on the display settings / fsaa, etc... for the tests. I don't usually
benchmark anything so this is all new. There are tons of reasons for it to
be of my current score.

Plus, with my current score, I am higher then 78 percent of all 9800 xts on
3dmark 2k1 and aquamark. So I agree it needs more tweaking and settings
changed but there are still tons of people with a worse score.

You're right not to obsess over what others are scoring. And you already
have a good idea what it will take to get your own scores higher.

Scrub the system and the registry of all leftover Nvidia files. They are
poison.

Most people quote benchmark numbers using the highest overclock they can use
to finish the run, with all background apps turned off, and tweak the
drivers by setting the 3D sliders all the way to the performance setting.
You can do the same to get a better score, but what really matters is
getting the most from your hardware at the settings you use every day.
