I read somewhere that the card has a cable and has to be attached to Hard
drive for some reason.. is that correct??
Also are the fans on them noisy at all either?
cheers for the replys.

No, You have to plug a Molex connector (The same power connector you
plug into a hard drive), into the 9800pro (and 9700pro, and a few
others)

Mine didn't seem to be, but it only had a fan on it for a short while,
then I watercooled the system.

It must be connected to the power supply. It can be daisy chained onto
the same power cables with a hard drive or CD drive which is the
source of the misinformation. The fan isn't very loud but then again
I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other.

Well... it requires power from a 4pin molex connector, the type used to
power hard drives... it's not connected to the hard drive per se...

A little whiney as they're so small, I replaced mine with the Zalman
ZM80A-HP.
