98 works doc to xp unit

I backed up my documaents from my windows 98 PC, now I am trying to install them into my new xp, PC, it tells me that the xp can not read the works program. What should I do? Have I lost all those documents from my windows 98 pc?

I'm not sure you are reporting the error correctly. XP does not "read"
the Works program.

I suspect that you have used Microsoft Works in Windows 98, but your new
Windows XP machine does not have Microsoft Works installed. This is
possible.

1. If you still have the Microsoft Works install disks from the old
computer, use them to install on the new computer.
2. Check the invoice for your new computer and if it was supposed to
include Works, then talk to your vendor. Otherwise you need to buy and
install Microsoft Works (or whatever word processor you were using and
want to continue to use).
