98 vs XP

I am fluent with Windows 98 Word. I used this program on
my job for years. I just purchased a PC that came with XP
and Word 2000. I am very unhappy with this updated
version. It seems to me I have lost a great deal of
mobility. I can not find more toolbar options. I do not
have a cordless tab in keyboard configuration. There does
not seem to be a calculator in the on the table toolbar,
and I can't find an autosave program to run in word while
I am working in an open, and yet unsaved document.
Yesterday I lost 15 pages of my manuscript! Can you tell
me if these are standard differences in the two programs,
or is mine malfunctioning?

I am very frustrated at the moment! Thanks!

Hi

Which version of Word were you using with Win 98? Newer versions of Word should be backwardly compatible with earlier versions.

There is no Word 98. Word 2000 (three versions old) has Autosave in Tools - Options - Save. If you crash your document will be loaded automatically next time you start.

Calculator was removed in Word 95. However you can add it back with Tools - Customise. It's called Tools Calculate.

What toolbar options can't you find.

What has cordless got to do with Word.

If this was a *NEW* new system - then why does it have Word 2000 - which is
now two versions old?! Surely new systems come with 2003 (or XP at the very
least).

Depends on the person who sold it. In most countries Word 2000 was the last version sold that doesn't require activation (Word 97 for Australia and three other countries). This could imply ...

Word (Office) 2000 RC2 required activation - or is that what you meant...?
