I accquired an older machine running Windows 98 se. --Processor running 400
Mhz, with a 12 gig hard drive (7 gig free). There is however only 64 MB of
RAM. After doing an upgrade to Win2k everything seemed functional except all
I get is a blank screen. Will increasing RAM help me in recovering all of the
programs and/or documents that where there before the upgrade?

Thanks

No, adding more RAM will only improve the speed but will
not fix problem. Perform a clean installation of Win2000
instead, AND double the RAM to 128 MBytes.

Your data files are most likely still there. Here are a few
methods to retrieve them:

- Do a clean installation of Win2000. It should preserve
your data files but accidents do happen...
- Temporarily install the problem disk in some other
Windows PC, then save the data files to another disk.
- Boot the machine with a Bart PC boot CD
(http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#download), then save
the data files to some other hard disk.

You might consider changing your approach to backing
up important files. They should be backed up to an independent
medium at regular intervals, e.g. weekly, and certainly
prior to performing major maintenance such as installing
a new OS. Doing it when disaster stares you in the face
is a bit late. A 2.5" laptop hard disk in an external USB
case is a highly effective and quite low-cost backup medium.

No, although you really should have at least 128 megs fo ram for win2k...
upgrading from win98 was a poor option.
You really need to perform a clean install and you will have to install all
your applications new.

If you install win2k in a new folder and do not use the format option...
your data should at least still be there.

If your data is very important...you should put the drive into another
machine and back it up first!

An older machine with only 64Mb of RAM :
Would not even think of installing W2K. PC is not adeqateto run W2K
I would leave Windows98SE on there
