after upgrading to 2000, my computer doesn't show an IP
address. My internet provider, Charter, says they can
not help me it is an operating system problem

Any help would be appreciated.

cable connection
webstar cable modem
linksys reuter (can still connect with laptop)

not sure what connection details would help.

Thanks

.

From a command prompt;
ipconfig /all
and post the output of the results and the same command on the laptop.

ipconfig show that "Media state .. cable disconnected"
but I have checked connections between modem, reuter, and
pc. all are ok. could it be the pc isn't reading the
reuter or modem? need to reinstall drivers?

I will check ipconfig /all
thanks

Some things to try;
1.) another cable
2.) check that it isn't a crossover cable (if connecting to the router)
3.) Does the green connection led on the NIC come on when plugged in?
4.) the network interface may be defective
5.) the driver may be incorrect for the network interface

thanks,

going to look for another driver for ethernet card.
tried to install software for router and pc couldn't find
router although ethernet card reports it is running
properly. Thanks

pc doesn't need any software for router. Does the led light up? Can you ping
the router?
