I need to upgrade to 2000 or ME to use our new powerpoint
remote. It will not work off my 98 windows. I was going
to load it but at the last minute, it did not say it was
copying my files. I can not of course and do not want to
lose my files. I cannot imagine that they would not copy
but it didn't ask if I wanted to copy as I have seen in
the past.

My brother loaded in on an older computer he was working
on and the files did not copy.

Did he overlook a step or do they copy automatically?

Thank you. wayne

If you are truly "upgrading" to Windows 2000 or ME, then you do not have to
copy your files. As long as you DO NOT choose to repartition/reformat your
hard drive, they should still be right where you left them. Although I do
not recommend that you upgrade your OS (a clean format/reinstall is always
best), you should still be able to access all your files after a simple
upgrade.

If any personal files are deleted (as in your brother's case) then it was
caused by user input telling the OS to delete them. Windows will not delete
any files on its own unless told to do so by the user.

Best of luck.
