I am putting together a PC with Core 2 Duo at 2.4 GHz, with DDR2 800. Asus
makes a board based on Intel 975x and boards based on Intel 965. I cannot
see the advantage of the 975x. Maybe I am missing something. Please help.

975X has more PCI Express lanes, suitable for two video slots.

975X Northbridge supports ECC on memory.

ICH7/ICH7R Southbridge used on 975X supports PATA (ribbon cable hard drives).

975X *may* allow X6800 multiplier setting to be raised above stock.
(965 BIOS are less consistent on this.) I don't consider this a
feature, as it is hard to get info.

The Intel comparison chart here, doesn't do a good job
of identifying any highlights.
