Just upgraded a system with a 9700 All-In-One from W2K to XP Pro. System is
an ASUS P4PE, P4 2.8GHz, Kingston memory (1GB), and Intel 845 chipset. Under
W2K, the video has worked just dandy for about 7 months.
I cannot for the life of me get this sumbeech to run under XP, however. As
soon as I load up the (latest) ATI drivers, the machine hangs on a black
screen on the next boot and every boot thereafter. To date, I've:
-- Installed latest Intel chipset INFs
-- Flashed the BIOS (I was only one behind to start with)
-- Tried installing under standard mode (initially) and then under VGA mode
-- Tried installing before WXP patching and after (all patches are now in)
-- I've checked the CMOS settings as per ATI's FAQs and everything there
seems okay.
Nothing's worked. This is killing me, games notwithstanding, because WXP
won't recognize the monitor (Viewsonic P225fb) without the video drivers
installed for the 9700. Why this is, is beyond me, but it won't. Meanwhile,
the GD monitor is only running at 60Hz.
Any insights/help would be MUCH appreciated.
