Post and XP startup display OK on DVI.

Blank screen at login, and monitor goes into
powersave.

VGA (analog) works fine.

Cat 4.7, also happens with latest Omega drivers.

Any ideas?

Hook up both..analog&digital
set it to digital display in control panel
not a fix but a workaround
does the same on my NEC haven't found the solution yet
the last driver that made it work properly was 3.9 and a version of Omega about
4drivers back

Thnaks for the reply, Peter, I have a few questions:

You mean the ATI Control Panel?
If so, I think you're saying to set it using
the Secondary options under Display?

So, CAT anything over 3.9 misbehaves?
Or is your workaround above for the current drivers?

In the Control panel you should see 2 monitors...monitor and FPD....make FPD
your primary monitor
the workaround is for all versions because anything over 3.9 did this to many
I never shut down so I tried disconnecting the analog but when I reboot for some
installation it always stops at the same point. With both cables connected it
reads the analog first and then the digital kicks in.Someone once answered this
by saying that when no analog is detected no further signal is send and you get
a blank screen .
hope this works for you.

The DVI connection does not become active under the
FPD box, it becomes active under the YPbPr box (the one
right of the Analog box)...I have always been using both cables
as it's the only way to get the hell out when you have a blank screen.

Lots of people have reported success with the 9800 and DVI
panels that would not work on other cards...another user
also indicated that the 9600 Pro works for him, on his 191T.

Maybe the 9600SE is just a POS...

Peter if you're still following this-

I bought a 9800 Pro /128 to try-it acts exactly the same,
so it's likely NOT the video card. I also don't think
it's the monitor per se, as I can get it up to 1024x768
with the built-in VGA driver in XP.

This leaves a couple of things-some versions of the 191T
(like mine) misidentify themselves as a Samsung 530TFT
due to a EDID bug. I suspect the Cat drivers are reading
this info (1024x768) and overriding everything I'm trying to do to get
the DVI port up to 1280 x 1024.

Or, for some reason, I have a bad DVI cable, but I find
this to be unlikely, as it works up to 1024x768@60. Only thing I
can think of here is that the Samsung supplied cable is single-link,
and that a dual-link cable, although theoretically NOT necessary
(191T bandwidth 135 Mhz per spec sheet), it may make a
difference.

If you don't mind, I have a few registry entries I'd like to compare
with you. If interested, we can take this off the NG - email me
at

(remove the obvious)

or, if you think others may benefit, we can leave it here.

Thanks.

Its been months since I worried about it
At that point in time I followed a newsgroup discussion on this topic and the
general consencus was that XP caused this problem in conjunction with the newer
Radeon Drivers. When I first installed the card with I believe it was ver 3.6 or
7 drivers there were no problems. The digital cable worked fine all by itself.
The problem did not come up till about drivers version 3.9 or 4.0 I dont exactly
remember..so long ago.
Then you could not go back to a lower driver version without the problem
following you.Something obviously was left behind even during the uninstall.I
can run at 1280x1024 in digital or analog mode at 60 mhz without problems. In my
control panel it shows 2 monitors at the top and the bottom has TV on the left
and FPD on the right.I can activate the top left monitor or the bottom right FDP
and as such switch between analog and digital.
I always stay on digital .
I will send you my email and we can compare registry entries
