9600Pro/XT or 9800Pro

Hi all:

Is it better to get a 9600Pro or 9600XT now, and get a 9800 Pro later
when its price has dropped?

I guess my concern is how long before 9600Pro becomes "old", if you know
what I mean.

The 9800 will be as old as the 9600 at the same time.

I would wait for 9600XT, only a few weeks.

9800 is a good upgrade for GF4 and Radeons below 9500. I think you'll be
very happy with 9600XT.

Well, I guess it depends on what you're upgrading from. I just bought a
9600 Pro a month ago and that was an upgrade from a two year old GeForce
3 Ti500, which just wasn't quite cutting it any more.
I doubt if the 9600 Pro is going to last me as long as the GF3 did, of
course it only cost half as much. If your current card can hold you
until there's a next cycle of gpus, it may be worth the wait.

If your ti500 wasn't cutting it your comp is too slow.

I guess you're right here ;-)

Let me thank you for all those who replied.

As far as 9800Pro goes, I've got a feeling you all would say a 9800Pro
is good but really...like "who needs it anyway?". No?

I'm using a Ti4200, which is noisy sometimes plus intermittent pauses.

As much as I love to have a 9800Pro, I still can't convince myself to
folk out so much for a video card. That's why I'm pondering if getting a
9600 Pro or XT would be a better choice. My concern is how fast it'd
become obsolete.
