I am putting in my 9600 pro with drivers from ATI. XP says I have to set the
video driver to VGA before I can load the ATI drivers?
I don't understand....
Using drivers with no CCC I used to get round this issue by installing
drivers manually, via "Update Driver" in device manager. You can point
to the extracted driver files in c:\ati\support..... (etc) for each
display, primary and secondary, in turn. After this I just used to
install control panel as normal. I think someone posted a fix for the
problem once, but I can't find it now. With my current build of XP,
this hasn't happened to me again. I switched to Omegas later on and
they always seem to install easily too. By coincidence, mine is also a
9600 PRO, but I don't think that is specific to the problem.
You can still do as I described, but you might be unable to install the
CCC application if that is what you want to do. Of course, there are
always the Tray Tools available, for example, as a work around - and a
very good alternative at that.
