the SE is the regular 9600, but with a crappy 64-bit DDR memory bus - the
normal cards have 128-bit access....also the XT's are faster in both ram and
core speed.

What is the difference between the 9600 XT and SE

Top-end for the mid-range, but the XT is prices about the same price
as the 9800 which is easily faster.

The SE = Slow Edition, its fine for a FANLESS silent DX9 video card -
but don't expecxt to play any real heavy duty games on it... its
performance is half that of a 9600... which makes the SE a very SLOW
card.

Have you looked at the price?

What does the price tell?

Yes that the 9600SE very probably is lobotomized ( and it is with an
64-bits memory bus )

And that the 9600XT is a fine mainstream card!

9600SE is barely adequate for most games. Halo stutters at 1024x768 with
everything on; even 800x600 is less than smooth. Older games (GTA:VC, Max
Payne 1) run fine, but if you don't want to be stuck playing old games for
the duration of the card life, steer clear of the 9600SE. Unlike me (sobs
quietly into beer).

Thanks understood however I was the owner of a NVIDIA GF4 440 64meg and I
purchased a Saffire 9600se 128 meg card and I immediately saw dramatic
improvement in drawing and speed to someone limited in funds I found this
never the less an upgrade .

440mx is a GF2 card... the 9600se is a slight upgrade over the 440mx.

Its a waste of $100 - when a GF4 (A real one) such as the now rare
Ti4200 is twice as fast as the 9600se.

Hidden and Dangerous is a hog and w/ g4 440 it froze up or had heavy lag
so far the 9600se has kept up w/ the game and shown promise maybe they have
improved there light version

True, it's a cheap card and though not able to cough it up with the
big guys it has it's merits...like good 2d output, videostream and a
few other usefull techniques.

The GF4-440, especially the SE version which is really a slightly
faster 420 card are GF2 PERFORMANCE CARDS.

There is no improvements made to the 9600se. It's a card that has its
legs cut off. It's performance is about the same as a GF3, but a tad
slower.... if its SLOWER than the 9200Pro and 9000Pro, then the 9600se
is slower than the 8500 and GF3.

Its not a truely bad card, but simply an extra $30 would make all the
difference.

A driver issue could be a cause or improvement in performance.

Try UT2004... www.unreal.com and see how well it plays.
