Best Buy has a 9600 pro card selling for 199.00, on sale at 189.00, also a
20.00 mail in rebate, making the final price 169.00. Is this a good price
for this card?

I don't know whether you're talking dollars or pounds, but www.ebuyer.com is
currently selling a Tyan 9600 Pro 128Mb 8x for £99 + VAT ( even with vat
that's less that £120. The user reviews on the site give it 5 of 5 so it
can't be bad.Ebuyer has UK and US sites so it's worth checking out!

Yep, I was tempted to buy this (I'll be upgrading from a GForce 4 MX 440)
but have read some reviews which say its already using overclocked memory
chips. Other cards are slightly more expensive eg.Sapphire 9600 Pro but I'm
wondering if its worth the extra if I am happy with the existing performance
and don't plan on overclocking that much.

Mind you, other reviews of this Tyan card say its ok overclocking the core,
just not the memory. If I did this, I guess I would still be seeing good
frame rate improvements in games, yes? If I couldn't overclock the memory as
well as some other 9600 Pro cards, what real difference would that make ???

That is a good price, because that is a "Built by ATI" card running at the
proper core and memory speeds. Look around this newsgroup for some of the
Q&A about the core and memory speeds of some 2nd party manufacterers. There
appear to be some ripoffs out there IMHO.
