9600 pro power supply

My graphics card recently went bust (melted), so I was in the market for a new one:

I found this: Powercolor Radeon 9600Pro EZ 256MB at ARIA PC.

Now I have a crap power supply (thanks Dell) and I was wondering if anyone knew if it needed a molex connector... I've been looking around, and I've seen mixed reviews.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a 9800SE a few years back and if i remember right that used a floppy connector!

How things have changed now some cards use two PCI-E connections!

EDIT: that card you liked to is the one i used to have Flops. Wasn't a bad card at all. :)

My 9800 Pro doesn't need any extra juice.

I'm in the price range of anywhere around £50. Any bargains ideas. Bot nVidia and ATI welcome. =)
 
AGP yeah? Thats what the card you linked to was.

Whats the rest of your spec?
 
Well as well as an Graphics upgrade, I'm buying some new RAM (to make 1gb) 2.66 ghz P4 processor (not Dual). VGA monitor. 300W /350W power supply (not sure as the poswer supply says 170W which is impossible).

I'm running of integrated graphics at the moment =(
 
You mean a DVI to VGA adaptor?

Its only twenty quid.....Or you could spend 50-70 on a card from OCUK etc...
 
If your machine's a Dell, a standard power supply may very well not be compatible as Dell used different pin connectors to their motherboards.

If you plug in a standard PSU it could go bang :eek:

So I'd do a little research into that, you may even be able to buy a higher powered compatible PSU from Dell, but I'm not sure.

And when driving to Sainsburys and back just a short while ago, I remembered my 9800 Pro does actually take extra power via a 4 pin molex connector. oops :o Sorry bout dat.

Which now makes me unsure about whether the 9600 needs any extra power.

Not being much help today am I? :lol:

Think I'll go down the pub :D
 
My Radeon 9600 Pro downstairs doesn't need any external power, and I think it is pretty much a reference card.

Thanks a lot =). I'll see if I my Dell 4600 needs a Dell power supply, or whether an ATX is fine. Some dells don't use the weird motherboard connector.
