9600 AIW PRO and Dual Xeon? Will it work?

I bought a new ATI All in Wonder Pro that I want to put in a dual Xeon
3.0Ghz system based around a Asus PC Deluxe motherboard. But will it
work. I am expecting HT problems but I also have the MS patch so maybe
that will resolve that problem But what about dual Xeons ... will it
be a fight to get it to work?

thanks

There is no reason why it shouldnt work! However, dual CPU PCs dont make
the difference to gaming (unlike DB's and other apps) that you would expect.
Yes, its going to be fast, but nowhere near twice as fast as using a single
processor.

I know that there will be issues with Hyperthreading because I have a
P4 3 Ghz 800Mhz with a TV Wonder Pro that has all sorts of issues that
probably won't be resolved until MS issues new Service Packs for 2K
and XP..

I have little interest in gaming. I am interested in video editing and
rendering.

Your wrong here. In a Windows based OS performance will be around 75
percent of the two CPUs added together, where as in BEOS it would be
close to 100 percent, but that is very unusual.

But an application like Adobe Premier which is written to take
advantage of dual processors will benefit enormously from dual
processors. Even without applications written to exploit dual CPUs,
antidotally, you will get a big bump in performance from the OS
because there is no lag time going from one process to the other.

In a single CPU machine, a poorly written program can grab all
available CPU time. But with a dual box ,no single process can tie up
a dual processors machine, or even have much effect. This is why
people using dual CPUs often describe the performance as snappy.

Your'e right, ... dual CPUs won't have much effect on game performance
because games are written for single processors. However, with two
processors I will be able to play any game while I am recording a TV
broadcast or even encoding a video file.

Thank's for responding but who I really need to hear from is someone
who is using multi processors with the AIW 9600 PRO, or even better
someone is using dual Xeons that support Hyperthreading. Essentially,
someone who can say, been there, done that!

Dual Xeons on an IWill dp533 w/ AIW 9800 using latest drivers & MMC 8.8
installed w/o a glitch.
If it matters I have the HT turned off for each CPU though. It offers little
benefit & can actually slow down performance.
The good thing about a Xeon is it can record straight to DivX with a
tolerable drop rate straight from the TV.
You probably will not be able to record TV & game at the same time though.
Its not a processor or graphics card issue though it has more to do with the
HD.
You seem to no what you're talking about but check the forums @
www.2cpu.com for other questions.
