I've got a 9500 (soft modded and oc to 9700) that I've had for almost 3
years and won't be upgrading my current system for at least a year. I'm not
much of a gamer but do a lot of graphics with Photoshop and I do a lot of
webcams, hi speed, with my kids in distant cities. I've got a jones for a
new video card and wondered whether a 800xl would make a speed and/or image
quality difference. Or should I just relax and wait until I build a new
system.

Thanks

Rich

Given your stated use, I would not upgrade until you build a new system. The
image quality you have now would be identical with an X800 XL. It's faster
but only in 3D games. It's 2D won't be any better than what you have now.
Photoshop speed is mostly CPU related. Going from a soft modded 9500 to an
X800 XL will net zero speed increases in Photoshop. Plus, I would looking at
going PCI-e in a new system. Spending on an AGP X800 XL would be
counterproductive.

I agree with Agustus, you only need a basic card for Photoshop, an x800xl
is a fast card for current tech gaming (FPS's) and would be good for rotating
medium sized objects in Truespace or Poser.
