I've been building my own boxes since the mid-'90s. The last one, built 3-4
years ago, is an Abit KD7A, 2500+ Barton, two ATA 133 eide HDs (no RAID),
GF4MX440, 512 MB DDR, 300W PS in a server case running XP Pro. Frankly, I
don't do much high-powered stuff (like gaming, video/photo editing,
etc.)...maybe a little .wav editing/recording now and then.

I used to be hip to the latest chipsets, MBs, etc., but this last setup has
been so maintenance- and glitch-free, I haven't had the upgrade itch.

Just looking for something kinda zippy to take me into the upcoming Vista
release...and beyond.

Thanks, all.

Personally I would sit tight with what you've got for now.
Vista won't be along properly for a good while yet.
Cheers!

From your description, you don't NEED anything right now, especially since
Vista won't be here for 7-12 months, and new hardware will be available
during that time.

If you still WANT to get a new rig, a 939 rig will likely be cheaper. Find
an X2 CPU at the price point you want.
