8x10 neg scanner: recommendations?

I've read about the Microtek 1800f and i900 as well as a few others. I
will be scanning b&w 8x10s (and some smaller sizes, as well). Mainly
for creating contact negs (larger size).

I know that the Microtek cannot compare to a Creo, no surprise there.

But in the <$1500 market, is there a clear winner? Or even a few top
contenders?

Right this moment, the surest bet is the Epson 4990.

In a couple of months, the Epson V700 and V750.
Specs for these two are up on Epson's web site, and
there's at least one review, here:

New contenders that may be winners too:

Epson V700 and V750-M
