Hi

Just got myself a EVGA 8800GT superclocked version, it idles about 60 degrees (load around 70-80)
Is this normal/okay? and if not what would be a good after-market cooler to fit (not watercooled)

Many Thanks
IPH

Does seem a bit on the hot side, what speed is the GPU fan running at I think these default to about 30%, you could download MSI Afterburner and try upping it to 50% and see if that helps.

you were right, it was set to 30%

I've changed to 50% but its still around 50 is that okay?

Its better what are the temps now under load this card can go up to 100c. You could try upping it to 65% and see how that goes.

not sure the best way to load it...
but about 30mins of TF2 and it stopped rising at 55 degrees
Should i increase the speed further?

Im late to the party. :)

What Nvidia driver you running as newer ones have different idle clock speeds, this will have an effect on your temps.. ;)

As will the state of your case and cooling it has.

BTW, to be honest the idle temps you posted in the first post are a little high, but load temps are normal. So i wouldn't worry. If your load temps were 80 and up then i'd worry.

Have you made sure the fan isn't clogged up? (This only applies if you got the card second hand, If new then this wont be an issue)

Regarding software, have a look though this thread. :)

the card is dust free (it was second hand, but i gave it a clean with compressed air)
Driver version: 8.17.11.9713
And the case is very old (new computer old case), but i have put fans everywhere (drive bays / side panel) so the air flow is okay

and thanks for the link for software :D
