I am signed up for the automatic update notification and
for the past week+ I have been getting this same message
that the following update is a available for
download:Security Update for Microsoft Windows #823559.
However, it will not install. I even went to the update
site and tried to download it from there, but it says it
can't. Why is it having trouble, do I really need it and
if so, what can I do so that my machine will accept the
d/l? I am running Windows Me.
Thanks

The update is not needed for Windows ME, provided it is directly from
Microsoft and not the virus that has been floating around.

O.k., so how do I stop the notices from showing up in my
task bar?(The little blue world that signifies that I have
an update ready to download) or for that matter, when I go
to the MS update page and run a scan for updates, it shows
up as a needed update for my machine? IF I turn off the
automatic feature, then how will I know when there is a
new update?
Thanks

SORRY my error, I thought you were getting them via eMail. You don't want
to stop those 'little blue worlds from showing up. You didn't specify that
it was in your task bar in the first message and since everyone was getting
blasted with fake eMails I thought that is what you were refering to.

When you double click on the icon it should give you the option to install
or remind later. Are you saying you have chosen install and it returns? If
so I believe you need to go to Windows newsgroup AND make sure the firewall
is set up if you have Windows XP. You can learn how to do that at
Microsoft's site or in a newsgroup.

This newsgroup is for Microsoft Access Security.

Hope that helps...
