Does anyone know why, when searching for Microsoft
updates, I am constantly having to install update #
814078? It seems to be the exact same update all the time,
and yet when I perform the update, it doesn't seem to take
hold.
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like there may be a problem with the downloaded package on your
client. If that is the case, you can either edit the registry to show that
the package is finally installed in order to prevent the reinstall attempts,
or you can delete the registry key below which may prompt a the client to
download a new instance of that update package.

Here's a sample registry key of an installed update. Each update has a
unique ID. Once you determine which the one you're interested in you can
edit it or remove it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components
{4f645220-306d-11d2-995d-00c04f98bbc9}

Manually adding the key with the following values allowed Windows Update to
load successfully.
"Default Value"="Visual Basic Scripting Support"
"ComponentID"="MSVBScript"
"IsInstalled"=dword:00000001
"Locale"="en"
"Version"="5,0,3,10"

Please repost to let us know how that goes.

I took your advice and deleted the key. I then relaunch
the update routine. The update for Visual Basic Scripting
Support was reinstalled. Again, the update for 814078 pops
up when I know that I already have it installed.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
