hello everybody, well i will tell a little story; i have i little experience with hardware & software problems & i can solve some, a friend of mine has asked me to repair his hard-disk 80GB that became 2.5GB !!!
he told me that he has used that hard-disk in a P4 PC once he detach it & pluged it into P3 550 PC then it became 2.5GB , i have tried with it all the solutions that i know (fdisk, windows XP disk management, partation magic & some other programs) but with no result & i have returned it to him without repairing, after few days he told me that a friend of him fixed it very simply on XP with no programs & in few minuts :wall: but he couldn't know what that friend did  .
can anybody explain how that happend & how it can be solved ???

Hmmm not sure about that one. Sounds to me that he just deleted the old partition created a new primary partition and formatted it?

Older operating systems have a hard drive size limit - do you know which o/s was on the P3?

it's not the problem, the problem is the hard-disk after that with any PC (P3 or even P4) was totally 2.5GB whatever tried to rearrange it with any way as i mentioned.

Then either something in the BIOS is wrong, it might be specifying Sectors manually in BIOS HDD Detection, if it is, change it to Auto.

If it's not that, run the installer for XP or something similar and ensure it removes all old partitions and formats the drive clean before an install.

And if it's not that then Jumpers on the drive may be messing about or the drive is faulty.
