I was looking to utilize 802.1X on my network but I've run
into a few snags. Windows 2000 does not by default support
802.1X but you can download an add on piece of software
that will fix that for you. The problem is that this
software (KB313664) can only be installed on W2K SP 3 or
lower and I have SP 4. Does anyone know if or when MS is
going to updated the software?

I'm running into the same problem implimenting WPA.
Doesn't seem that Microsoft even knows that WPA exists
except for XP.

Anyone from MS give us a pointer?

In SP4, 802.1x has already implemented.
Note that default is disabled. You have to enable it:
1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
2.Click Services and Applications, and then click Services.
3.Set the Startup value for the "Wireless configuration" to Automatic,
and then start the service.

Just as you can see in KB313664
