We have a PC and two laptops on WiFi networking via a Belkin router.

One laptop, on a LinkSys 802.11b is constantly either unable to get on the
network/internet or, has its connection interfered with by an the network of
a neighbour who will not turn of his ESSID broadcast.

Will a 802.11g unit help prevent this problem please.

TIA

Have you tried changing channels? Try one 5 different from what it's on
now, e.g. now:6 try 1 or 11.

Hi Rick

Thanks for your answer. We looked at the channels, but he is on 6 and we are
on 11 so can't get much further away. Additionally, our machines are
manually configured. The Samsung 15x laptop has Intel PRO/Wireless
networking which supports 802.11b and g. So, since we are not able to get
the cooperation of the neighbour to change to,say, channel 1 and he also
won't turn off his ESSID broadcast, it seems our only hope is that a 11g
card will provide more security.

Your neighbour shouldnt make a difference should it.
Simply enabled WEP on your wireless router so he cannot connect to your
network.

Is your router plugged in to a strip plug if so try it in a plug on its
own for more power.

G is faster than b, it has the same range.
