I've got an HP LaserJet 4 Plus which worked great--unti I tried to add
additional memory.

Anyone got any ideas what the above error means?

I have removed the memory, and I have left the printer sitting without
power, but upon power-up it still shows the message.

Is there a reset inside like you find on motheroboard for the onboard "CMOS"
configuratoin?

Update--
I found how to do to a "cold start" by holding the Online button while
powering up. Still have the same problem.

HELP!

that error USUALLY is associated with a NETWORK card. Is there a
network card in the printer? If I recall Laserjet 4's clear the NVRAM
each time they power cycle. If something is not there that WAS there
before...( Paper tray , duplexer, RAM et al)... it typically forgets
about it. So there should be no need for a "Reset button" .You CAN
reset the "User settings" through the menu , but if it is getting to
an error 80 ( I have encountered and conquered this error a number of
times).... you have to clear that first. I have even had to remove the
formatter board to insure the Little black plastic mounting fit
correctly into the pin holes ( turned out , here was the problem)... I
discovered removing the network card had actually moved the plastic
connector enough ( it has a number of really long metal pins in it) to
not make good contact and threw the error. As soon as I had a good
solid connection ... it relieved the error.
