I've recently tried to install a WD 80GB JB (8MB) HDD on my old system
(MSI MB, celeron 750, 256SDR) with 40 Pin IDE cable, and got the
message that I need a 80 pin IDE cable. I changed cable and all was
fine. I then put the same drive in my new system (Gigabyte 8SQ800MB,
P4 2.4b, 512 2700DDR), and upon starting, the message still shows up
briefly, but the system boots fine. It's as if the HDD still
"remembers". While my system is running fine, and without hassle, this
is annoying me, as I am a finicky sort of bloke.

Any thoughs?

Try resetting the BIOS by clearing the CMOS. Just write down what settings
you had before hand incase your not sure what settings to use.
