8.5"x14" not fully printing

We have an hp photosmart 8250, and a canon i550 bubblejet printer. I've
been having trouble printing an 8.5"x14" (portrait) document that has a
watermark. I'm using wordperfect 9. (I've also tried msword 97 and the
same thing happens).

On the canon, nothing prints unless I convert to a graphic and print
from a graphics editor program, (which doesn't produce a clean
print-out).

On the hp, it prints 11" and leaves out the rest.

The paper size is set to 8.5x14 (in the wp page setup). We have it set
to that for the printer itself as well, although wp says it doesn't use
that setting. We're using windows 98.

Any help appreciated.

I know nothing of Canon printers or WP, but I do know about Word 97 and
Windows 98, and Windows 98 would be my prime suspect. In fact, if you
use Windows 98 regularly and haven't done a clean install in over a
year, you're overdue. Windows 98 has a habit of crapping itself out over
time, even if you don't get infected with malware. And by a clean
install I mean backing up all your data, reformatting the drive, and
starting with the install CD. Just "re-installing" over an existing
installation won't do much. And yes, you'll have to re-install all your
programs, one by one, too. It'll take the better part of a day to get
things squared away, but you'll be rewarded with a (usually) leaner,
faster system when you're done.

You can try uninstalling the printer drivers and re-installing them, and
try uninstalling Office 97 and WP and re-installing them first, if you
want. That MAY work. I have my doubts, though.

You'd be best off to use a newer OS, though. Windows 98 was mercifully
killed by Microsoft years ago.
