How do I uncompess .7z file in Vista?

When in doubt, use the FilExt.com Website. It has all such details.

Shouldn't it unzip itself the way jZip does when opening the file?
I obtained 7-Zip, because it supposedly opens some files jZip can't, but
didn't have to use it yet and my system is the same as the OP's.

Use the program which created these files. It's called 7-Zip
(freeware). Google for it.

Download, install, uncompress your archives.

Any idea how to use 7 zip to view the contents of an uncompressed
folder, as windows explorer can

On another point. I have produced two files from uncompressing a
codec.

The files are essentailly the same. One is for Release and the other
for Release Unicode.

I think that Release Unicode would be the best for Windows Vista, 32
bit. Do you agree?

Uh -- 7-Zip is for viewing, compressing, and uncompressing *archives*,
n'est-ce pas?
 
Haven't used jZip, Harry. But have tried 7-Zip earlier.
