Why Flash? It doesn't add anything of value. Instead, it denies service
to all who don't like that bandwidth waste, eg because they are running
a modem, which will extend flash animation downloads to full minutes of
lost time.

As someone who years ago decried the use of GRAPHICS and pixel maps on
early web pages for similar reasons I agree with you, but I don't
think we're likely to change designers' opinions. O'Reilly (Books)
has a couple of good articles on that:

Thank you for posting the website address. My opinion is yes they are time
wasters IF you spend all day playing games. But then the slot machines are
also a big waste of time and money (unless you are fortunate to win big). A
game played now and then can recharge the mind. Or so I find.
