All of a sudden Outlook (2003) will only show 7 days worth of mail in the
Inbox. At the bottom is says there are 17,000 messages, but I can't see
them.

I have checked all the options I know to check.

What is causing this and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

You might want to check your View settings, ie to show more than last 7 days
PS thought of Archiving?

Charles,

Try creating a new folder called Hold or something like that and move 16,990
message to that folder. I have thousands but never in the inbox. If it gets
up to 100 I tend to panic.

Checked archive, all the folders in there were empty. Archiving was not
turned on, although Outlook does ask every once in a while.

Never thought to look in view, there is an option to show "last 7 days".

Thanks!

.....you need to do some housekeeping. You shouldn't have that many items in
any folder - create subfolders and start filing.Outlook's performance will
be a lot better, for one thing - more than 5k items in a folder, and it
turns to sludge. Personally, since I view the inbox as a 'tickler' I don't
like to close Outlook at the end of the day with more than a handful of
messages in it.

Actually this is not my PC, but a friends that is not Users Group
experienced, so I sent this message on her behalf. I have talked to her
about the # of messages and she works at cleaning it up , but gets' 100's a
day and can never seem to get a handle on it.

I will tell her again, she should keep folders down to less than 5k.

Thanks.

Your probably right. Even with archive off I am asked (on my PC) and I will
tell it yes once in a while, but there is nothing in those folders. ??

No big deal, as I copy the .PST file off the drive daily for backup
purposes.

Thanks.
