What to do? I get ads popping up all over the place and I
have tried everything to remove this IP address
69.20.16.183 but it keeps regenerating. This virus is
stronger than this program. Any ideas? Can MSFT target
this one?

Hi there mate you are infected with the look2me pest
better known as VX2 better internet

Theres loads of people having problems with this but
strangly enough they do offer a unistall feature it comes
from the makers of look2me so thats not the best start
but its recommended on alot of antispy sites
majorgeeks,hijack this forums etc.. so maybe worth trying
ive just tested it on mine as i wouldnt want to add to
your problems and it said i didnt have the look2me
application so maybe it is genuine.

You can get it here:

http://www.ad-w-a-r-e.com/cgi-bin/UnInstaller

If this doesnt work then the next step is VX2 removers
Theres a plugin for adaware available for look2me from
here

Ad-aware SE :
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?
id=506&file=11&evp=8dbaff7daca8f4b55bf695220993fc0f

Ad-aware VX2 plugin (Once installed run adaware and go to
the plug in menu and run):

http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?
id=4283&file=1&evp=34312f31f5a8511bfb7cf839b1eaff0b

Then theres Kill2me which is for removing the look2me
infection

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?
id=4166&file=1&evp=e994cf5e9abe6c93b47c01f2922c271f

Then>
Download and run VX2.BetterInternet Finder which will
search for files that are tied to Explorer and very tough
to remove. These files usually are .dll files found in
the Windows\System32 directory with backup files similar
to *.cpy.dll

http://www.pchell.com/downloads/vx2finder.exe

With the look2me uninstaller listed first with it coming
from the makers of look2me id advise not saving it,click
the run button instead,far safer in my opinion

If these dont fix your problems please repost and i will
explain some manual removal methods but these are the
simplest as they search for VX2 then remove them and the
manual method involves deleting registry area's plus
files from various places.

Please note these general tips when trying to remove any
bugs:

ALWAYS do these when trying to remove a bug.

First: Turn off Windows XP System Restore (Start,Right
click my computer,Properties,then system restore and
disable and apply)

Next: Show hidden files and folders. (Start,Search,Then
tools at the top bar,choose folder options then go to the
second page View,and tick show hidden files and folders)

First run them in normal mode and then check your system
then if its still there go to the next step

Next to boot into Safe Mode
Reboot the system and tap F8, choose Safe Mode.

Next: Delete Temp Internet files :
Open a internet browser window, click Tools then Internet
Options.
Click on the Delete Cookies and the Delete Files buttons,
then click OK and close the browser window.

Next: Delete Windows Temporary Files - (start,run then
type %temp% delete all files you can in this folder
The Windows temporary directory (usually located at
C:\windows\temp).
This directory should not be confused with the Internet
Explorer "Temporary Internet Files Directory".
The Windows temporary directory stores temporary files
that are used during installation of programs and at
other various times.
Cleaning this directory regularly is generally a good
idea.

Theres afew other automatic programs you can use plus
manual removal methods but i would suggest you try these
first then reply if you dont have any luck with them as
the manual removal involves deleting registry keys and
running visual basic script files so dont give up it can
be removed but i want to try the basic stuff first

Regards Andy

Boot into Safe Mode (F8) at startup;

Empty your temporary files AND your Temporary Internet Files C:\Documents

and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder ;

Run the scan while in safe mode;

If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any

BHO's that you don't recognize.
