Well the title says it all!
I need someone to make my mind up for me!

I got £200 that i wanna spend on a new graphics card but cant decide what. I was hoping someone out there will be able to give me some clues.

Specs -
Gigabyte GAVT600-L
Athlon 3200XP
ATI 9800 S.E (AGP)
1GB Ram 3200
120 GB H.D x2

200 Quids about the limit, but can go a little over, but less is of course better!

Any help would be great because i just cant make up my mind!!

Thank you people. :thumb:

ummmm tough decision mate
its like

gerrard asking himself
Chelsea or Real Madrid?
but the idiot does a great big u turn!!!

but in this situation, i would go for the PCI-E
its gaming at a new level so it will be worth the wait and money!
:)

Cheers mate, you know i must have read that artical about 3 damm times last night and i still cant make up me mind!! :(

How much better is PCI-E in reality? Is it worth spending 500+ quid on a new rig at the mo? Or should i wait for a while? My AGP/XP set up will last for a bit yet wont it?

Thanks for getting back so quick! :thumb:

The difference between pci-e and Agp at the mo is to small to even contemplate lashing £500 on a new rig just to ride with Pci-e...

Stick with agp you'll see no difference between the two at the moment there aren't any games that utilise the 16x slot to full advantage...

Thanks for the info. Thats generally what i have read on the net but wanted the trusted opinions of you dudes here as you have given me some good advice in the past! :thumb:

How long do you think its gonna be before PCI-E will take off and become the standard?

So, now to the question of which one? 200 pounds my budget, but i can go up a little bit if its gonna be worth it.
I have seen the XFX 6800GT on Overclockers along with the X800XL Connect 3D and Powercolor cards. (Anyone have any preferences as to the cards brand name?)
There doesn't seem to be too much difference in the spec just the price from what i can tell.
As i have an ATI card already, will that make any differance?

Cheers again!

In my experience the nvidia cards have better drivers with less bugs....go for a 6800gt you won't be dissapointed....;)

Thanks for all the help Crazylegs, you've done a good job at helping me make up me mind!!!
6800GT it is then! Will spend the rest of today checkin prices and havin one last look at the options.

If anyone has any last thoughts then please post them!

Cheers again everyone. :thumb:

good choice :) it's hard to overclock a ati ... you have to buy a 3rd party application ... and it isn't as good as nvidia's :p

let us know what sort of benchmarks you get with the new beauty :D

you dont need to buy a 3rd party app to OC an ATI card, i use ATI Tool which is free

I was sure it was already... Yeah you can still buy AGP, but all new computers you buy pretty much have PCI-e cards in them ;)

I've been think of overclocking it when i get it, whats the best way to go about it?
Coolbits and Rivatuner are the ones i've seen, but i haven't had a good look about yet.

Ledtek are good cards, i here that xfx have dodgy fans sometimes

Asus and Gainward have there own overclocking tools, just make sure you have enough cooling, you can get dedicated graphics card coolers or put one in a PCI slot next door :)

So aint the XFX68GT that good? Coz thats the one i got in the basket! The reviews i have seen seem to think its ok.
If its only the fan then it a big problem as i will prob end up getting an Arctic cooler for it. :D

Buy it from O/C'ers here. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Arctic_Cooling.html (second from last)

I forgot to say before but i used the ATI Tool for my current card it does the job well, only limited by my crap card! :(

Well i got my finger on the buy button just havin one last talk to myself before i buy it!

XFX cards are meant to be very good, as long as you've made sure the speeds are reasonable then you'll be fine

the easiest would be an HIS X800XL card, they have an OC'ing app with them and have arctic coolers already fitted

P.S, I have increased my budget! Up to £230ish.
