what can I do to stop this symbol '~'from popping up as a
desktop Icon on my computer ???? when you click on it and
open it up there is nothing there even though it shows
175KB of space I always send it to recycle bin and sooner
or later it just pops back up on my desktop as an Icon
What the hell is it ??? it sure is aggravatting what can
I do to stop this menace??? I run McAfee virus scan but
it shows no viruses on my pc and i also have firewall and
i have spamkiller program but the damn thing keeps
popping up . Thank you Pat McRae my computer is a hHP
pavilion xt963 Windows XP Home Edtion and I have all the
latest updates too . and it still don't stop this
little '~' bastard from popping up on my desktop as an
Icon>

The tilde (~) is a result of this patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/330994/default.asp
The file is created when certain changes are made to your address
book.
The files can be safely deleted.
A search of Google shows many having the same harmless but possibly
annoying issue.

My understanding is that Microsoft is aware of the issue.
