Please resubmit.

And try googling "64 bit vista" - you might learn something.

Hi Dave,

64-bit is faster and can use larger amounts of memory *if* the programs you
use support it, otherwise they all run in 32-bit mode and you will not
notice any perceptible perfomance increase. A bigger concern is device
drivers, make sure signed ones are available for all of your devices before
installing 64-bit, as you cannot use unsigned ones (which is quite common in
the 32-bit version).

64bit doesn't mean faster speed. It basically means you no longer have
the 4GB RAM limit.

However, drivers are an issue - even on XP 64.

As most applications generally available are 32bit, there is little point in
running 64bit Vista.. the only gain presently would be peripheral device
incompatibility..

There are though, like 3D Studio MAX and so on. It depends what do you need
it for. If for your every day tasks with openoffice and total commander, you
won't install 64bit... if you run databases or these graphics stuff with
64bit applications available, I would advise...just try it. Try 64bit and if
it does not meet your expectations, run 32bit.

Charlie Russel from the Windows x64 group wrote an excellent article
to answer your question. The following is a copy of his answer to the same
question.

"You might find this whitepaper of interest. The situation is improved wrt
to
drivers on Vista x64, but most of the concerns are still something you need
to at least think about to see if they apply to you.

There's a useful whitepaper on the Windows XP 64bit web site that I think
should help you decide:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl..._XP_Professional_x64_Edition_Right_for_Me.doc".

... and so on? what a list that makes.. if a user needs 64bit, they will know
it, not ask a question like the OP did..

So on after 3ds max makes list of cad, graphics and media applications.
But it's absolutely true that if the user need 64, they will know it.

I would recommend the document Dennis Pack mentioned for any other users.

Thanks for that excellent article! Now if only Nortel would release a 64
bit version of their VPN (& my IT guys actually let me use it).
I got a 64 bit version of my 3D CAD software sitting here, but I have to be
able to ping the license server to use it.
