Hi,

I'm considering buying a laptop. How can I know If the specs I am
considering will be compatible with 64-bit operating systems and
softwares ( like Ubuntu 10 or 64-bit Matlab). Are these specs revealing
enough -

1. Intel Core processor Duo T2400 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)
2. 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
3. 100 GB SATA Hard Drive

Thanks.

Although I doubt that you really need a 64bit OS...
if you do...you will *not* be able to run it on a 32 bit CPU.

If you really want to go with a 64 bit system...then I suggest you get a 64
bit *AMD* cpu
and forget about Intel. AMD is several years ahead of Intel and will
probably be there for quite some time

I saw a review that said that the core duo processors will not support the
64 bit version of Vista, because it does not have EM64T support. I don't
know about Ubuntu or Matlab. Do they have their own news groups? Will
Intel answer a request for information?
