6 minute delay before Windows XP loads

Last week we had a short power failure. I unplugged the computer and plugged it back in after power was restored. Since then there is about a 6 minute delay between when my computer starts and Windows XP begins loading. In between a single white bar flashes, almost like a dos prompt but that's all that's on the screen. Everything seems to work fine once it loads but I can't figure out why there is such a delay. Any ideas? Thanks.

I remember a problem like that just before my hard disk crashed.

the white bar slowly filled in from left to right and finally after
two or three attempts my pc booted ok

I bought a new hard drive, Ghost cloned it and
when the old drive gave up the ghost (pun intended)
I switched to the new drive.

I would make copies of all my important stuff and
be prepared to replace a drive.

You can also download Bootvis from Microsoft. It is a Boot performance
trace visualization tool for use with XP. It gives an overview of
what processes are doing what and when during boot and allows you to
optimize your boot up:

Hope this helps.
