Here goes then...
I'm *very* disappointed with it all :-(
I only got into it on the request of a friend who wanted to keep in touch
with his daughter who was moving abroad.
He asked me if I would check his setup, so I bought a webcam and I already
had a microphone (which I'd never bothered with).
I don't think I've had so much hassle with anything in my life!
The webcam and IM works really well, but the audio, despite spending *many*
hours is lousy.
The only way I can make it work at all is to kill ZoneAlarm for the session,
which I am *not* happy about.
(I want to keep ZA in preference to the XP firewall, and it's not easy to
uninstall anyway, as I also use it on Win98SE which I have on another
partition.)
The sound is very intermittent, so much so that my most often used phrase is
"Say again?"
The real killer is the several (5 -7) second delay. I literally can't cope
with it, and I totally lost my temper yesterday, and had to resort to the
phone.
The big question is to ask whether there is *any* way of getting rid of the
delay, even to using other software such as Eyeball Chat (for example).
I'm using 150k cable BTW, which I would have though fast enough (?)
You do a great job Jonathan!
