Well, they are out anyway........;) MS will probably also
learn how to quality insure security software releases, otherwise One
Care and MCP will be a disaster ;)

Stinking "Error guard" and finally maybe a Aurora killer.

Any clues about whats within these ;)

Got the new update ok. Not sure I like the new set up for the Newsgroup
though. I have followed instructions for posting new posts, but when I click
on 'NEW' then 'QUESTION' or 'GENERAL COMMENT' nothing happens. I don't get
any box up to write my message. So at the moment all I can do is reply. I
can't seem to post a new message. Am I doing something wrong or is it a blip
in the program.

Sorry, forget my last post. Pop up blocker was on and stopping the box from
coming up. Sorted it now. Still not sure I like the new set up though. Will
get used to it in time I expect.

Hi Trish

Well, my opinion is that the webUI is a bloaty mess, never seen
so much human interface faults. Incredible coming from Microsoft.
And that someone responsible for this "shit" can be proud of it ?

As I wrote in another message, if this was a market place it would be a
disaster for this product.

----------------------------------------------------------------

You must permit popups for all "New questions", horrible !.
Look at IE infobar if you are on XP SP2 and permit for this site.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

My defs cycling and something seems to be wrong............
TIF empty but they cycling anyway.

Make sure your newsgroup popups aren't blocked in Windows, toolbars,
application accelerator, internet suite, etc. New Posts apparently now use
a popup window.
See the thread "Newsgroups are now SEARCHABLE via Browser" from yesterday in
this forum.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Again.. regrets for asking within this post..
Thanks in advance..

Good seeing you again Connor, Are we having problems again? I'll go for

Indeed it might not be right:

And, after another file, check for updates, which to all visible indications
did nothing:

Creaky joints? Looking forward to a beta in which we can focus on the
functionality, rather than the bugs.

Dave and Bill.. thank you. I question this only because I show:
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5765 (10/6/2005 7:50:26 PM)

Definitions Increment Version: 118/118
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1306338 <--- lower than last update
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2772542
Definitions DeterminationData: 611858

The only reason I AM questioning this is because the ThreatAuditThreatData
with the Def Version 5763 on 9-29's update was 1306538! The number seems to
have gone down.. instead of up. Bill, it looks like you have the same #, if I
am reading this correctly. The updater indicates that I am updated and will
not repeat itself. (??)

I'm trying NOT to focus on bugs.. but I'd also like to have some assurity as
to whether or not I am updated correctly. Thanks again for your input.. and
don't be surprised if you see me again... when the next update rolls around!

Do you know if this # IS correct.. or should I manually update only
...ThreatData?

After yet another Manual Definition Download/Update from SpyNet...

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5765 (10/6/2005 3:23:54 PM)
Definitions Increment Version: 118/118
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1306338
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2772542
Definitions DeterminationData: 611858

Conner make sure your popups aren't blocked for the New Newsgroup posts.

Hi Dave..
It looks like we are in agreement.. for whatever it's worth. Does it make
any sense to you that the ThreatData number would decrease with this update,
as opposed to increase? Unless of course, I've totally misunderstood the
whole concept. (I've presumed there would always be an increase)
Admittedly, I haven't tried manually updating yet. I had wanted to see if I
had any reason to. And when I find out if the ThreatData # is indeed
incorrect (or correct), I'll have to do so.

I've discovered the "error of my ways", in regard to posting It wasn't the
popup guard. I believe I've straightened it out though. Again, thanks for
your input. It's always appreciated.

Conner;
Very bizarre behavior, and really I'd just be guessing, because I have no
clue as to how the internals of the definition updates are handled either at
the server or client end. But, what I did do was save the old files before
I manually replaced them and I can tell you this. The old ThreatData was
1,306,538 bytes, and the new ThreatData is 1306,338 bytes. Yes smaller,
amazing! So, can we infer something, perhaps a false positive, was removed?
Dunno, but thanks for alerting me to the definition problem. As Bill would
say... the good news is, there's only a max of 85 days left to Beta1, and as
Dave would say, the bad news is there could be up to 85 days left in Beta1.
;)

Good news and bad news. LOL At this point.. I'l take any explanation I can
get.
Add to that.. it is "supposedly" what everyone else has. And if it's wrong..
the masses are wrong! A small consolation.. but yet a consolation.

Thanks for indulging me in my folly..see you next update.
Conner
